3 Key Barriers In The Growth Of Education In Africa

African countries fall back on several parameters and one such big parameter is education. After careful researchers and studies following three things pose serious concerns for the education system and calls to get grants for building schools in Africa:

1.Gender Differences

Gender differences in primary education is higher than in secondary education in Africa. Females are increasingly dropping out than their male peers in secondary school due to early marriages, cost of continuing education and gender-based violence in secondary schools. Gender inequality can be witnessed even in the textbooks used in schools that are written from male perspectives and ignore many female leaders and perspectives in history.

2.Teachers

Thousands of Zimbabwean teachers have gone on strikes, joined teacher unions and left the profession in recent years over low salaries, poor working conditions, political victimization and violence. Thousands of teachers across Africa have protested, left public education and migrated to other countries in response this economic problem. Many researchers believe that teachers will continue to strike in the future unless their needs are better addressed by the government.

3.Textbooks

In 2009, the Educational Transition Fund (ETF) was launched to improve the quality of education by availing quality education materials. The ETF is partnered with UNICEF and encourage private donations to raise funds for better quality textbooks for children. Thousands of textbooks have been donated in the past few years along with additional learning materials.

For a country like Africa, it is important to provide funds and necessities that are resulting in poor education system. Over the years many countries have come up and have contributed towards a better and brighter Africa.
